Smooth Brome is a deep rooted, winter hardy, perennial grass. It is a durable, high quality pasture species. This grass makes good quality hay and is used for erosion control. It is very palatable and is moderately tolerant of saline soils. It can stand up to heavy grazing and periods of drought once established. It can be a key component for pastures and grass hay mixes in cooler locations. Smooth Brome is somewhat slow to establish, but over time it can form a dense sod that can last for many years. It can be planted in the spring or late summer. If planted in early fall, plant at least 6 weeks prior to frost.  

Sowing: 

• Plant at 15-20 acre when planted alone and 5 to 10 pounds per acre 
• Plant into a clean, moist, firm, seed bed at 1/4" deep
