Pauite is a low-growing heat resistant strain of orchardgrass.  It can remain persistant under more arid conditions the other varieties.  Pauite is a survivor -It has been found to establish and persist at high elevations for up to 20 years in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Idaho.  It is well suited as a forage crop for rainfed pasturelands and can also be used erosion control and fire breaks.  Under irrigation Paiute grow in close stands of more robust plants.
