Creeping red fescue is a cool-season very fine-bladed grass with a deep green color which requires low inputs and low maintenance. It is very tolerant of shade and forms an excellent companion grass to increase shade tolerance when used in a mix with other grasses.  It has a high tolerance for cold temperatures, does not require much fertilizer and does not need excessive amounts of water. Creeping red fescue does not like excessive heat and does better in shaded locations in warmer areas.

Boreal is an improved variety with fine leaf texture, that is widely adaptable.  It will do well in sun or shade and is better at handling heat and periods of drought.
