UC 27 Treated DEVELOPMENT
UC27 is a Fusarium wilt resistant chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.).
BREEDING HISTORY & DESCRIPTION
UC27 is a Fusarium wilt resistant chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) derived from a cross of wilt-susceptible UC5 x the wilt-resistant Mexican variety Sonora, made in 1981 by Dr. Ken Foster.
UC27 is a large seeded ‘kabuli’ type chickpea with compound leaves and pinnate leaflets. It has white flowers and large cream colored, wrinkled seeds. The plant become upright at maturity and is highly suitable for direct combining.
UC27 is recommended for growing in the Central Valley in California as a winter crop, to be sown from mid-November to the end of December or early January. It can be considered in coastal situations for the normal spring/summer cropping period where supplemental irrigation is used.
PEST & DISEASE RESISTANCE
UC27 is resistant to Fusiarium wilt.
UC27 has out yielded Surutato in yield trials.
